Hablo de remotas tierras
de praderas verdes
y cultivos altos
hablo de lejanas pampas
de caballos salvajes
hablo
y cuando hablo de ríos y de puertos
no son los mismos ríos ni los mismos puertos
que tú te imaginas.
Hablo de curtidos jinetes
y tú piensas en beduinos
montados en camellos.
Digo río y pienso en el Paraná
corcoveando enloquecido
de norte a sur
y cuando digo río
tú piensas en el Jordán estrecho
y recatado.
Hablo del tiempo
y digo friotempestuosolluvia
hablo de invierno
y en este momento
tu disfrutas de solcalorverano.
Hablo de remotas tierras
de praderas verdes

OF REMOTE LANDS I SPEAK


I speak of remote lands
of green pastures
and tall crops
I speak of faraway pampas
of wild horses
I speak.


And when I speak of rivers and of harbors
they aren’t the same rivers or the same harbors
you imagine.


I speak of tanned horsemen
and you think of Bedouins
riding on camels.
I say river and I think of the Paraná
bucking crazed
from north to south
and when you say river
you think of the Jordan, narrow
and modest.


I speak of the weather
and I say coldstormyrain
I speak of winter
and in this moment
you enjoy summersunheat.


I speak of remote lands

JOSÉ PIVÍN Argentina/Israel 1942-

JOSÉ PIVÍN nació en Rosario, Argentina, en 
1942. En 1945 se trasladó ala ciudad de 
Santa Fe junto con su familia. Allí vivió hasta 
1973, año en que se radicó en Israel. A fines 
de la década del cincuenta se despertó su
interés por la literatura y el periodismo y 
comenzó a publicar poesía y reportajes a 
escritores y poetas. Su primer libro de 
poesía, Infartodiario, fue publicado en 
Buenos Aires en 1983. Su segundo libro, 
El inquilino que hay en mí, también fue 
publicado en Buenos Aires, en 1987. Su 
tercer libro de poesía, De remotas tierras 
hablo, fue editado en Jerusalén en 1996 por 
Neta Gonen del Hadassah College. Esta 
edición es bilingüe:castellano y hebreo. 
José Pivin además es el editor y director 
de las revista virtuales PAGINA 1 y 
El gallo en alpargatas.

JOSÉ PIVÍN was born in Rosario, Argentina,
in 1942. In 1945, his family moved to the city 
of Santa Fe. He lived there until 1973, when 
he settled in Israel. Toward the end of the 
1950s, he became interested in literature
and journalism, and he began to publish 
poetry and stories about writers and poets. 
His first book of poetry, Infartodiario, was 
published in Buenos Aires in 1983. His 
second collection, El inquilino que hay en mí, 
was also published in Buenos Aires, in1987. 
His third book of poetry, De remotas tierras 
hablo, was edited in Jerusalem in1996 by 
Neta Gonen of Hadassah College. This 
collection is bilingual, Spanish and Hebrew. 
José Pivin is also the editor and director of 
the virtual magazines PAGINA 1 and El
gallo en alpargatas.
